MIDFIELDER Peter Sweeney could be the latest loan player to join the Mariners on a permanent basis. The Leeds midfielder, who was one of Town's best players in the run-in last season, is still a target on Town boss Mike Newell.

Newell told the Grimsby Telegraph: "He's one I wouldn't rule out yet, purely because he hasn't ruled it out yet".

  • One midfielder who won't be at Blundell Park next season is James Hunt who has signed for Gainsborough Trinity after being released by Town.

  • 16-year-old 'keeper Rob Peet has joined Town's Youth Team after being released by Leicester City, where he had spent the last eight years. He will spend the next two years on Town's books.

  • Town have been drawn in Group B of the Errea South West Challenge Cup in Devon during July. Their opponents in the preliminary round will be Belgian side RRFC Montegnee and League One outfit Yeovil Town. The venues have yet to be revealed but if Town win their group they will face one of Barnstaple, Blackpool and Rushden in the semi-final.
