Town Face Tough Start

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/06/2009

GRIMSBY have a tough start to their League Two campaign next season facing four of the pre-season favourites in the opening month. The Mariners' opening game is against Cheltenham at Whaddon Road, when they will get a chance to avenge their Cardiff defeat three seasons ago.

After that the Mariners take on newly relegated Crewe at Blundell Park on August 15th. The following Tuesday sees the Mariners face pre-season favourites Rotherham United at home.

The final two games of August are at last season's play-off semi-finalists Bury and at home to Aldershot (nominally the easiest game of the month), who made a strong start to life in the Football League a year ago.

September does not look much easier than August, and it is only in October that Town start getting the notionally easier fixtures in the division.

Other notable games before Jan 1st are Lincoln away on Sat Nov 21st, Notts Co away on Boxing Day and Port Vale at home on Dec 28th.

If Town are anywhere near the top of the table by the end of September it's likely they will have a good season.
