Beat the Bookies: Week 16

AFTER a couple weeks of ill health and general inertia (and of course losses) Beat the Bookies is back, looking at the League Two Betting scene.

Grimsby v Dagenham Neither side have had many wins recently, and Dagenham were thrashed 5-2 at home in midweek. Other recent results mean Town really have to go for wins at home, draws are not good enough at Blundell Park. It's about time Town did the business after coming close at Macclesfield and the 5/2 on offer for a home win against an out of form side looks good value. Selection: Grimsby
Bournemouth v Shrewsbury There's been a lot of draws in League Two recently, and these two teams seems to have been involved in a lot of them (along with us)! In truth there's not a lot to choose between the sides and it's hard to see why the Shrews are 3/1. Selection: Shrewsbury
Rochdale v Macclesfield Rochdale are the in-form team but they've had quite a few upsets this season at home and at 11/2 anyone in this division is worth a punt especially in a local derby. Selection: Macclesfield
Rotherham v Burton Albion Rotherham have done well recently but most of their fixtures have been against the poorer sides so their recent form might flatter them. At 9/2 Burton are worth considering. They are a steady side who don't often lose heavily. Selection: Burton Albion
This season we will again be trying out three different betting strategies:
- Fixed Odds
- Spread Betting on the Mini Performance Index with IG Index (25 points for a win, 10 for a draw, 10 for a goal)
- The Monkey (betting on Town to win each game 3-1, i.e. the complete absence of any betting strategy). The Monkey lost every bet last year.
