Question of the Week

Where will Grimsby be next season?

Town Fire Blank

GRIMSBY failed to grab the win they needed against an injury-ravaged Shrewsbury side at the New Meadow. The Mariners missed all their chances in front of goal, but equally had to thank Shrewsbury's profligacy, with the Shrews twice hitting the woodwork.

Shrewsbury's Waide Fairhurst and Nathan Elder both had efforts which hit the Grimsby woodwork, while winger Jamie Devitt forced a flying save from Town 'keeper Nick Colgan.

Town's best chances came when Adam Proudlock forced a close-range save from Shrewsbury goalkeeper David Button and Barry Conlon fired wide from a good position just 15 minutes from the end..

Town boss Neil Woods was disappointed not to get his first win. "We had the best chances," said Woods. "In fact creating three against a good side shows we will improve when we get the confidence to take those chances.

"At the start of the season you look at the fixtures and you would take a point at Shrewsbury. But after the game the players are disappointed that we didn't win.

Town have now drawn their last four away games 0-0, something they also did in the 1962-1963 season.

More worrying though is the fact that Grimsby have only scored 1 goal in 6 games, especially when the next few games are against the division's in-form sides.
