Beat the Bookies: Week 20

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 31/12/2009

THIS week sees a reduced Beat the Bookies. There are no League Two fixtures worth betting on so instead we turn to the FA Cup. The main consideration these days is how seriously the big clubs take the competitions.

Generally it's the clubs at the top and bottom of the Premier League who are least interested in the FA Cup. The ones in the top half who are unlikely to either get relegated or qualify for Europe are the teams with most to play for.

Most Premier League teams have no fixture for a week so you'd not expect them to field a very weak side. The exceptions are Stoke and Fulham who play on Tuesday and Arsenal v Bolton who play on Wednesday.

The Tuesday game is the one which is most significant, falling so soon after the FA Cup game. Stoke are playing York at home 11/1, which you would expect the Potters to win whatever team they field.

Fulham, however face a Swindon team who are doing well in League One. It's likely Fulham will rest quite a few players and at 12/1 with Sky Bet Swindon are the best value of the round.

We recommend betting on Swindon to win, plus Swindon in the Asian Handicap (+1.75), which will pay out in the event of a draw or a 1 goal win to Fulham.

Recommended Bets

1. Swindon beat Fulham, 12/1 Sky Bet
2. Swindon (+1.75) v Fulham, Asian Handicap, 4/5 Sky Bet

The Monkey's bet is 33/1 for a Town 3-1 win.
