Bookies Back Town to Go Up

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 03/06/2010

GRIMSBY have been made second favourites to win the Blue Square Premier League next season by the bookies. Former league sides dominate the betting market, with Luton strong favourites to return to the Football League in their second season.

Other fancied sides are play-off losers Rushden and York, as well as Town's fellow relegated side Darlington. Possible dark horses include last year's runaway Blue Square South winners Newport, and phoenix club AFC Wimbledon.

No side has ever got promoted from the football league and won the Conference the following season.

Luton 15/8
Grimsby 13/2
Darlington 9/1
Rushden & D'monds 12/1
York 12/1
Wrexham 14/1
Mansfield 16/1
Newport County 16/1
AFC Wimbledon 20/1
Cambridge Utd 20/1
Crawley Town 20/1
Fleetwood Town 20/1
Kidderminster 25/1
Kettering 40/1
Southport 50/1
Gateshead 66/1
Bath City 80/1
Altrincham 80/1
Barrow 100/1
Tamworth 100/1
Eastbourne Borough 100/1
Histon 100/1
Hayes and Yeading 125/1

Odds to win the BSP from Bet 365

Grim Rob Says Not many people seem to fancy Town to go straight back up, but let's hope the bookies are right. We certainly have the fan base, and the board seem to be providing competitive wages to attract top players, so it's not beyond belief that the Mariners could do it. If I had to back any side at those odds it would be AFC Wimbledon.
