Town win at Darlo

GRIMSBY returned to winning ways at Darlington last night, getting the better of a drab encounter against last season's fellow relegation side and one of the favourites for promotion. A second half header by Watt deservedly gave Town the lead, but the Mariners had to survive some late pressure.

Neil Woods made several changes, unsurprisingly given the frequency of early-season games in this division. Corner, Cummins and Gobern all made their debuts for Grimsby.

Very little of consequence happened in the first half, although the Mariners looked the better side. Ridley was forced off injured, which meant Bradley Wood had to come on as left back.

Town took the lead from a Peter Bore corner early in the second half, a bullet like header from Watt giving the 'keeper no chance.

Connell should have doubled Town's lead but it wasn't to be and the Mariners had to sweat out the latter stages of the second half when Darlington pressed forward.

A full report will appear later…
