Town Saved by the Fog!

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/03/2011

TUESDAY night's match with Rushden was abandoned 57 minutes due to fog to the delight of the home supporters and the fury of Rushden. The visitors were in a string position leading 2-1 and with an extra man after Darran Kempson was sent off.

Alan Power and Matt Johnson made it 2-0 with two goals in the first half, then Kempson was sent off for a second booking to give Grimsby a massive mountain to climb.

Leading scorer Alan Connell gave the Mariners some hope when he scored a penalty just before half time after he has been brought down by Craig Farrell.

The teams came out for the second half but the referee called the game off with just over 10 minutes gone, much to the dismay of Rushden, although the fog seemed to be no worse than it was in the first half when the decision was made.

Connell's goal will be struck off but Kempson's one match ban will stand at Bath.

Fans with ticket stubs will be able to get in for half price at one of the home games with Gateshead, Tamworth or Birmingham.

A date for the re-arranged match has yet be be decided.
