The Fall From Plaice - Part 4

By: Gainsbro Mariner
Date: 03/01/2013 (Last updated: 20/01/2013)

IN 2009 Neil Woods introduced us to the former Middlesbrough, Carlisle, Chesterfield, Huddersfield and Rotherham midfielder. Only 28 at the time he joined Town, Hudson had started the 2009-10 season with Blackpool who would eventually go on to earn promotion to the Premiership that season.

Hudson however had joined Gainsborough on non-contract terms in order to build up his fitness for an imminent move back to the Football League. It came in November 2009 as he joined Town. To be fair he wasn't that bad was he? There were times where he would storm through the centre of the pitch and trickle the ball over the keeper? Or am I imagining that? No, he did net several times in his Town career that came to an end in June 2011 when his contract was not renewed.

Somewhat of a surprise when he left Grimsby was where he went next. Worksop Town of the Evo-Stik Premier League, it was certainly a good capture for him, albeit a very short capture as he moved on to rivals Bradford Park Avenue midway through the season. An even shorter spell this time round it proved, as a week and a game later he moved to Northern League club West Auckland Town which is where he finished the season. Since August 2012 he has remained in the same league but has turned out for Ashington, Sunderland RCA and now his current side Shildon AFC. That means Hudson, now 32 years old has played for six teams in the 18 months since his Grimsby departure. A true fall from plaice!!
