New Transfer Blow

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/01/2013

BURY have recalled Town winger Marcus Marshall, who was on a season long loan at Blundell Park. It looks like he may be following the same path as former loan winger Scott Neilson and be heading to Luton.

It is a bitter blow for Grimsby because Marshall has been Town's best player in recent games and there are only a few days of the transfer window left to find a replacement. There is also the matter of Tuesday night's game against Hyde, which looks like it could beat the weather. Unfortunately Luton seem to be using Grimsby as a scouting club for themselves, as they have targetted other loan players who have been at Blundell Park besides these two.

Grimsby at one time had a surfeit of wingers, and consequently have just let Louie Soares go to Alfreton on loan until the end of the season. Town still have Jamie Devitt and Joe Colbeck, but beyond that only strikers or midfielders like Frankie Artus, who has played wide before, are available as backup.

Although frustrating it's the downside with getting players in on loan, and Luton's financial power is such that they can lure most players at this level to Bedfordshire. Scott and Hurst have repeatedly brought quality players to the club from elsewhere so we'll have to rely on their judgement again.
