GRIMSBY beat Scunthorpe United in the First Round Replay last night to secure a home tie with League Two's Northampton in the Second Round of the FA Cup. Goals from Lennell John-Lewis and Clayton McDonald sent 2000 Town fans home happy.

In between the two goals, Scunthorpe equalised right at the start of the second half. Scunny had a penalty shout which was not given for a foul by Pearson, but the ball fell to Hawkridge who took advantage of the confusion to slide the ball in.

Over the two legs most commentators agreed that Grimsby were the better side and deserved to go through.

Former Town boss Brian Laws was then sacked by Scunthorpe, the defeat by the Mariners being the final straw for the Iron directors.

The Mariners now have to forget the excitement of the FA Cup as they have to play Edgar Davids's Barnet at Blundell Park on Saturday, then they play Coalville Town away in Round 1 of the FA Trophy, in which they got to Wembley last season in.
