Grimsby v Cambridge Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/02/2014

CENTRE back Shaun Pearson will return for Part 2 of the FA Trophy semi-final against Cambridge on Saturday. The defender has missed the last two games through suspension, both of which Town lost 2-1. The Mariners will be hoping that Pearson will inspire a win which could take Town to Wembley.

A last gasp John-Lewis goal on Saturday gave Grimsby an undeserved lifeline in the second leg after being comprehensively outplayed by Cambridge. Grimsby improved in the display at Barnet and were fairly unfortunate to come away with nothing, so Hurst will stick with largely the side from the Barnet game, but with Pearson's addition.

The major doubt is left back Aswad Thomas who limped off early in the game against Barnet. Jamal Fyfield came on for Thomas and is a ready-made replacement at left back who also played in the first game against the U's'.

Midfielder Paddy McLaughlin is unlikely to be in the squad as he has a knee/ankle problem.

United are expected to make at least one change. Cambridge captain Ian Miller, once of Grimsby, played for 90 minutes against Wrexham in midweek , so could start at Blundell Park. Otherwise Harrison Dunk, Adam Cunnington and Ashley Chambers are still injured and Matthew Barnes-Homer is cup-tied.
