Town Throw Away Three Points

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/03/2014

GRIMSBY threw away three precious points at Macclesfield when the Mariners conceded a late penalty, and succumbed to a sucker 94th minute equaliser - virtually the last kick of the game. Aswad Thomas make a clumsy challenge on Chris Holroyd in the box, to end up drawing a game Town had dominated.

Connor Jennings put Town in front late in the first half, scoring an opportunist goal in the six yard box when an Andi Thanoj shot had deflected and looped into his path.

Town went on to dominate the game, without creating a hatful of chances. Disley had time and space in the box, but skied his shot from a good position.

With the ball heading out of play Thomas made a totally unnecessary foul in the box away from the ball and the ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. It was a total gift to Macclesfield who had rarely threatened Town's goal.

Town have a quick change to banish the ghost of Macclefield when they play Hereford at Blundell Park on Tuesday night.
