Town Lose to Leaders Luton

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/03/2014

GRIMSBY lost to runaway leaders Luton in a close-fought game that Town had initially taken the lead in. A mistake my Scott Kerr shortly after Grimsby's goal led to a quick equaliser.

Although Town had most of the possession for the remainder of the game they failed to create enough clear-cut chances to win the match, and Luton, lethal on the counter-attack, scored all three points with a breakaway goal.

Grimsby had dominated the first twenty minutes of the game and it was no surprise when Rodman set up Neilson for Town's opener. However a mistake by Kerr led to a cross into the path of Robinson, who beat McKeown from close range.

Both 'keepers made good saves and the score remained 1-1 at half time.

After a strong period of Town pressure Luton broke and Griffiths hit the post, before Benson followed up to tap in the rebound.

McKeown was lucky not to be sent off for bringing Ruddock-Mpanzi down outside the box, but the referee decided not to award a foul.

Lots of Town pressure failed to come up with an equaliser, and Luton had further chances to score on the break.

Grimsby now have three consecutive away fixtures starting with Hereford and followed by Wrexham and Kidderminster.
