Town's Season So Far...

ALL the signs point in the right direction - up - for Town. With a fantastic run of eight games unbeaten, Town look almost unstoppable in the run up to the end. One point off top, and having the greatest form in the division, are Grimsby finally going back to where they belong?

The recent signings of defender, Josh Gowling, and winger, Jordan Chapell, seem to reassure fans that management are also very keen to get automatic. Gowling is a very experienced Conference defender, who will bring added security if our worst nightmares come to fruition. Toto Nsiala could potentially receive a red due to his impressive physical qualities that have led to him receiving a staggering 13 yellow cards this season. However he is easily first choice centre back and his partnership with Pearson has formed an impenetrable wall at the heart of Town's defence. Chapell has been brought in to add a youthful, creative winger to the team: down our flanks usually seems to be Arnold or Jolley, with the latter not seeming 100% at home, so these signings fill me with confidence of Hurst's promotion push.

Paul Hurst. I have been a long admirer for Hurst. Many of the haters are "plastic" fans, who expect 5-0 wins every game. He has recently won the "Manager of the Month" for his incredibly impressive wins this season. The last time he won it, we had thumped Gateshead 6-1, a sign..maybe?? His loan signings this January were very impressive. Last season if I had said to you winger Neilson, defender Boyce*, and left back Thomas were to leave, you would have said that we were not going to get promoted. But the players Hurst has brought in as replacements are as good, if not better: Gregor Robertson - rarely gets a mention, but is 10x better at left back than Thomas. He does not have the blistering runs down the wing, but he is by far a superior defender. Christian Jolley - a Conference veteran who helped Newport to promotion, quality signing but yet to find a position...but has a better work ethic than Neilson, who had been sloppy all season. Toto Nsiala - brick wall...all I have to say...

I reckon Town could gain automatic, as we are one point off top at the time of writing, and Bristol Rovers and Barnet's form has gone downhill recently, whilst Town's has increased dramatically. If we fail to go up automatically, we should win the play offs, with the amount quality in the squad we should be a firm, mid-table League Two team, without making huge changes.

Footnote

*I am aware Boyce left earlier in the season, and is possibly better than Nsiala, hence his recall into the Scunthorpe first XI
