FA Trophy Team News

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 21/05/2016

GRIMSBY undertake their final act as a non-league side with tomorrow's FA Trophy Final against Halifax next season. The two teams competed as equals in the current campaign but will operate two divisions apart next season after Grimsby's play-off success and Halifax's relegation.

In their five previous seasons in non-league the FA Trophy has eluded the Mariners, despite coming close on several occasions, including losing to Wrexham on penalties. Should Town win, the 2016 season would emulate the great 1998 campaign when Town won the double,

Andy Monkhouse (knee) and Evan Horwood (hamstring) both missed out last week but at set to return as they probably both would have competed in the play-off final had they been fit. It will be tempting for Paul Hurst to make a few changes to give some of his fringe players the chance to compete at the national stadium. However Hurst is said he is committed to win this match, and there is also a ?20K prize for the winners as well as the glory of lifting a trophy on the balcony.

Whatever the result, expect goals! Grimsby beat Halifax 7-0 at home and lost 4-2 away, and with a showpiece occasion at stake, both teams will want to leave with happy memories.
