Two Pre-Season Defeats

GRIMSBY Town's pre-season has had a couple of poor results after the Mariners lost in consecutive days to North Ferriby and then Stamford in the Lincolnshire Cup. Meanwhile, the friendly against Rotherham United, which has been due to be played on Wednesday has been cancelled at the request of the Millers.

Although pre-season games are largely training and fitness exercises they are a pointer to how the pre-season training is progressing and the biggest worry in Town's case is the number of goals conceded so far.

Last year Town had a 100% pre-season then started poorly in the league, so one doesn't necessarily lead to the other. However with so many new players the team as it stands have yet to fulfil their potential.

Town's next friendly is at Blundell Park against Premier League neighbours Hull City at home tomorrow night (7.30pm). The Mariners will need a good performance to stop the Tigers from exposing their hitherto defensive frailties.
