Will he stay or will he go?

GRIMSBY slumped to their third consecutive home defeat with another disappointing display against bogey side Cheltenham. The Mariners once again enjoyed the most possession but created very little and Billy Waters's early goal following a free kick proved to be the winner.

Omar Bogle and Dominic Vose had both gone close in the opening minutes of the game but that was as good as it got for Town on a frustrating afternoon which was dominated by the possible defection of Paul Hurst to League One basement side Shrewsbury.

Hurst refused to take part in the post-match interviews, leaving assistant Chris Doig to deny any knowledge of any negotiations between Grimsby, Hurst and Shrewsbury. The Shrews are nearing a deadline for their first choice, rumoured in the local press to be Hurst, to make a decision. Whatever he decides his stature with many fans has fallen because of the way the situation has been dragged out with supporters having to rely on social media rumours to keep tracks on developments.

Grimsby travel to Yeovil next, once the next port of call for Russell Slade, the last manager who chose to depart Grimsby for pastures new.
