Town Bounce Back

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/02/2017

GRIMSBY bounced back from a disappointing 5-0 result against Crewe with two strong performances this week. A point at Newport on a difficult pitch stopped the slide and it was followed up by an emphatic 3-0 win at Blundell Park against Mansfield.

Two goals from Calum Dyson and a first-half goal from Chris Clements after a huge slice of luck in the build-up gave Grimsby a platform for another clear sheet.

There was no fluke about Dyson's opener and Town's second though after the striker made a strong run into the box and drilled the ball past Kean. Dyson then added a second from the spot ater Hayden White hauled Bolarinwa down in the box. White received a second yellow for the challenge and Stags' boss Steve Evans also saw red after a touchline incident.

Town now need just a handful more points to be sure of survival in League Two next season. The Mariners may currently occupy a mid-table spot, but a good spell until the end of the season could yet see Town yet reach the play-offs for the fifth year running.
