Disley Departs

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 09/05/2017

CRAIG Disley and Josh Gowling have both been released by Grimsby. The two will always be remembered for their roles in the 2016 promotion campaign, although neither has played a full role this season.

Disley was one of the stand out players of the non-league era and was a fitting figure to lift the trophy at Wembley last year. Gowling, 33, and Disley, 35, are approaching their final year in the game, but doubtless will be able to find professional contracts elsewhere.

The club are to recognise Disley's contribution over the last six year with a testimonial game, details to be confirmed.

In other news defender Dan Jones and winger Ashley Chambers have since also been released by the club. Neither was a regular, although Chambers made 15 appearances for the club during the season just finished.

Town are looking to reduce their overall squad size from its final count of over 30 to somewhere in the low twenties. In order to accommodate new signings well over ten players will probably be released.
