Town Hold Bury

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 24/03/2019

GRIMSBY produced their second consecutive draw against in-form opposition when the matched against second-place Bury at Blundell Park ended 0-0. The Mariners defended solidly for most of the game and had numerous good counter attacks which they were unable to make the most of.

Harry Clifton and Reece Hall-Johnson came in for Elliot Embleton and Danny Collins respectively.

Town started well and had much of the early possession, and Woolford forced Joe Murphy into a save.

Bury came into the game more as the first half progressed and McKeown had to make a couple of saves.

Town were playing the counter-attacking game and tried to break quickly from defence, which they did so on a number of occasions. Just before half time, they had men over in one of these attacks following a Bury free kick, but Clifton couldn't manage to play the right ball and the moment was lost.

Both sides had chances in the second half with Town once again threatening on the counterattack, but the players were unable to make the most of the extra player in these attacks.

Ahkeem Rose came on and almost had an instant impact, combining with Clifton to set up Hessenthaler who blasted over.

Vernam came within inches of giving Town the lead when his long-range shot whistled just wide of the goal.

In the end, a draw was a fair result and Town can take pride in keeping a clean sheet against a free-scoring side.
