Rovers Storm past Town

Date: 13/03/2019

GRIMSBY'S hopes of a positive end to the season all but vanished in a ten-minute nightmare spell at Tranmere last night. The Mariners had fought their way back to level the game at 1-1 before conceding three quick goals in a ten-minute spell which effectively ended the contest.

Other than the terrible spell, the Mariners generally held their own, but must now collect a few more points to ensure safety and start building towards next season.

Former Mariner Connor Jennings gave Rovers the lead with a low shot past James McKeown before Martyn Woolford scored from a rebound Wes Thomas's penalty was saved by Scott Davies.

Rovers then had a purple patch and Manny Monthe, James Norwood put Tranmere in control before Jennings added a fourth after McKeown made a mistake from a Banks's free-kick.

Michael Jolley has the rest of season to give some of the younger players a chance to show what they can do.
