Vernam Leaving but Wright Signs

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/07/2020

GRIMSBY look like losing striker Charles Vernam after they failed to trigger an option on his contract in time. That has allowed other teams, including an unnamed League One club to attempt to sign the player, who is now effectively a free agent.

It looks unlikely that Town will persuade Vernam to stay and Billy Clarke looks also set to leave as the club could not match his wage demands. One player who has signed though is winger Max Wright who has signed a new 2-year deal, with an option of a further year.

Local lad Wright, 22, who made his way up through the youth team ranks, is Town's first signing since last season was curtailed, and he joins the small squad which is likely to remain small and anyone with a contract can expect lots of first-team appearances.

Town will look to further strengthen their squad in the coming weeks as the league and government continue to work out how and when the 2020-2021 season will begin.
