Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

We are Town
We are Town

We Score When We Want

GRIMSBY maintained their 100% home record with a comfortable win over Eastleigh. The Mariners started slowly but took the lead just before halftime and were the dominant side after the break. Town could even afford the luxury of a penalty miss and still turn out 2-0 winners.

Two changes were made from the Wrexham win, with Fox and Bapaga coming in for Coke and McAtee respectively.

Town created most of the chances in a quiet first half. Clifton had a good opportunity from an Efete cross but misjudged his header into the ground. Bapaga had a shot blocked from a Clifton pass, and Sousa had a shot wide.

However, the Mariners finally made a chance stick just before the break when Efete headed in from Hunt's corner.

Efete could have added a second headed goal from a Hunt cross, but his header looped up onto the roof of the net.

Town's narrow lead was threatened when Josh Hare headed wide from a cross. Hurst responded by bringing on McAtee for Hunt and Town soon move up the gears.

Mcatee had a shot blocked from a Sousa cross and then a few minutes later Bapaga drew a save from the 'keeper.

Town finally scored the second to put the game to bed when Mcatee squared to Fox who blasted a shot into the top corner at the Pontoon end to make it 2-0.

John-Lewis came on and Mcateee had a shot that went just wide, then Town won a penalty when Bapaga was brought down. Mcatee had a pressure-free strike with the game all but won and sent the keeper the wrong way, but the ball bounced back off the post and he was unable to control the rebound.

Grimsby have started the season superbly but need to continue their progress with two away games coming up, the first of which is Maidenhead away on Saturday.
