An utterly disgraceful decision, unrepresentative and unsympathetic to the state of the club and the Town. GTFC will remain the joke of Division 1, (as long as they can survive, out of their depth) with a Div 3 ground and budget, and small town mentality.

A fine example of the small minded views of a council that won't be satisfied untill there is nothing left in Grimsby.
Give town a chance.

The decision by the council is an outrage. As my fellow Tranmere fans have stated, the parking and entrance to your current stadium are not adequate. I sincerely hope that they change their mind.
best of luck chaps.

We have a council that has voted against a new stadium which the people of Grimsby wanted (re poll). They not only do not take notice of the people who elected them but also do not want to bring any investment into the Town.

This decision is not only a blow for the football club but also a blow for the community.
The fishing industry was once our flagship but alas no more.
The Mariners are the flagship of the area and it provides the people with something they can all share. The pride of their team. The many thousands who travelled to Wembly are living proof of that.
The football club is the only remaining resource that brings recognition of the town and the people.
The NELC decision has quite firmly placed Grimsby NE Lincs into the also rans. They should be ashamed of themselves.

This was a great opportunity for improvement and progress in the town, not just the football club. But the council and obvoisly Great Coates, are so parochial and short sighted.

I am as upset as everyone on this page. Probably even more so as two of my final year dissertations depended on a different result. But, although I find the decision puzzling I feel crying about the decision now is a week too late. I was in the Town Hall to witness
the decision, but it looked like 80 percent of the room were against building a new ground. Granted these
were all Great Coates residents, but I feel not enough pressure was put on the councilors that was as 'in
your face' as the Great Coates Civil petiyion team.
They did a good job on the night doing what they had to do. Although I didn't agree with their actions they got what they wanted. All the polls and advertisments were great, but there was no one backing up the points on the night. We need to let the council know how passionate we feel about our town and club. It may not have made much impact but at least we could have tried. I feel slightly let down as I was expecting more competition to the vote on the night.
Remembering this vote was to just change the local plan, it doesn't mean that it will never be changed in the future. We need to keep fighting for the future of our football team. We have had a huge set back but we must keep fighting.....
No offense is ment to anyone, this is just my opinion.
No emails cussing me please. I want this ground as you all do!

I'm disgusted that Town's new ground proposal has been rejected, we will now be the laughing stock of the League for having the most old fashioned ground in the 1st div. NE Lincs council should be ashamed of themselves...

Jul 15, 2000 08:42:04 john.harry@diamond.co.uk John Harry NE Lincs England 212.250.111.208
This decision amazes me. Working outside of Grimsby, often throughout the country, people from much larger, more affluent towns and cities begrudge the fact that we have the bottle to produce a team that can just keep its head above water in the first division, with little or no major funding.
However, the one thing that will stop all of this, is when the FA tell us that our ground isn't up to standard, and that we can p*** off back to the conference, where they think we belong.
And who will we have to thank for this act? People, who through our votes, our council taxes, who are there to represent US, have made this decision with out any reference to the pride that the people they are elected to serve gain from GTFC.
If this is a measure of their regard for the town, is a sad day for Grimsby indeed..
