GRIMSBY TOWN have received a huge boost with the news the right back John McDermott may return to first team action as early as January next year. The veteran full back, who received a serious calf injury back in September against Gillingham, is in course to resume full back duties in the New Year.

McDermott, the club's record appearance holder with 483 league outings, got the all-clear from a specialist to step up his rehabilitation. Since the Middlesbrough-born defender's injury Alan Neilson, Danny Butterfield and Stacy Coldicott have all appeared in the right back berth, which this season has been jinxed - Neilson and Coldicott both sustained serious injuries whilst playing there as McDermott's replacement.
