Coyne: He wasn't called into as much action as was required at Preston but he did do his job well. Can't really attach any blame on him for the goal, it was a good finish by Hughes and he did make an important save early in the second half to keep us in it.

Grade: C+

Ford: Showed that he can perform at this level but he did look a little nervous to start with. His awareness could be better but that will come with more games but he did look a useful defender for any future injuries to key defenders.

Grade: C

Groves: In the centre of defence he looks like he doesn't know what to do when he's given the ball. It was a bit of a scrappy performance by the captain but overall he wasn't as bad as some people made out in the crowd.

Grade: C

Gallimore: He did very well at the beginning of the game and had kept Lee Hughes very quiet. Not sure what the pair were up to when Hughes was shown the yellow card but from then on Gally turned into the old Gally and had an average second half.

Grade: C+

Neilson: He looks more comfortable out of defence and helped the midfield out very well over the course of the 90 minutes. Drifted in too centrally at times and occasionally had problems getting to grips with Chippo who kept swapping flanks.

Grade: C

Chapman: The small left back looks so confidant on the ball and fits in well. He was involved in most of Town's best moves but it's his control and effort that stand out the most. He also showed he could tackle well near the end.

Grade: B-

Butterfield: He was OK in patches but apart from that he was a bit lost in midfield (where has that been said before?). Another player whose awareness needs improving because he gave the ball away too many times for my liking.

Grade: C-

Burnett: What a load of useless turd he is. In certain games he puts in some effort but against Coventry I think he touched the ball twice, if not, once. He thinks his hair will win the ball in the air because it's so big but he really needs to be told to pull his finger out.

Grade: D

Willems: Not as good as some of his previous displays but generally he played OK. Didn't seem to know what his job was, he ran around a lot, flapped his arms a lot too. Also he seems to be very slow at clearing the ball.

Grade: C

Jevons: One chance, but he fell over. Butterfield's shot was so soft it his Jevons but he fell over just as he was in a great position to shoot. Could have won a penalty too but the ref was never going to give it. He looked knackered after 20 minutes.

Grade: D+

Boulding: He can't use his pace as much when playing up front but he did make a few things happen. Still a bit greedy, but he at least puts in the effort that other Town players don't (I'll mention no names, but Burnett is one).

Grade: C+

SUBS

Thompson: Came on with 20 minutes to go so he just gets a grade but I'm not going to give him one because he was totally invisible.

Jeffrey: Tried a shot that was woefully off target.

Coldicott: Nutmegged a player, fouled Thompson that was about it.

Best part of Town's performance: The formation seemed to make the defence more stable, and the wingbacks gave is more width going forward.

Areas for improvement: Generally, being able to shoot.

Entertainment scale: It wasn't a really bad game at all and if it had finished 0-0 no one could have argued. But it didn't as I reflect on the game I do remember some incidents.

Grade Guide

A*This is almost impossible to achieve as I will refuse to give anyone this grade - unless they score six goals and get opposing players sent off.
AThis is more possible to achieve, although the player must have had a brilliant game i.e. he can't have put a foot wrong all match.
A-The player must have performed superbly, setting up goals, scoring goals, making match-winning tackles etc.
B+The player played to a very high standard indeed having been influential throughout the 90 minutes.
BThis can be achieved if the player had a very good game overall but could be forgiven for making one or two minor mistakes.
B-The player put in a performance worthy of special mention for his efforts on the pitch or otherwise having a good game.
C+A mark for players who have had an average game but at the same time played well in patches and may have had an impact on the final score.
CAn average performance but not worthy of being dropped for the next game - a competent performance.
C-Start thinking about the player's attitude and commitment on the pitch. Showed little effort and was probably invisible for most of the match.
D+Poor game and realistically shouldn't feature in the next game.
DThis player shouldn't be playing in the near future.
D-The player deserves to be fined for his abysmal performance
EThe player should be sacked
F And then shot
