Robins Release Lever

FORMER Grimsby Town central defender Mark Lever has been told that he can leave Bristol City on a free transfer. A fans favourite, Beverley-born Lever, who won the Player of the Year Award in his final season at Blundell Park, left Town on a Bosman to move to Ashton Gate.

Although he has had some injuries this year Lever is reported to be fit now and the 31-year-old is looking for a new team after falling out of favour at the West County club. The 6'3" centre back has played 18 league games and three cup games this season for the Robins. The question is whether Groves would be interested in being re-united with an old playing partner.

Paul Groves met with the board yesterday who reiterated that some money would be made available for new players in order to try and ensure Grimsby's First Division survival. With games fast running out the 35-year-old player-manager will be keen to spend the cash as soon as the right individuals become available - arguably as Lever has become today in an area in which the Mariners are particularly lightweight: central defence.

York City have shown great faith in Grimsby Town fans by allocating them 3,000 places for the FA Cup Third Round replay with the Mariners a week tomorrow. The match is pay on the turnstiles with 2,000 places in the standing section behind the goal - at £9 for adults and £6 for concessions.

700 seats are also available in the Popular Stand at £10 and £7, and 300 seats in the Main Stand at £12 and £8. Supporters are being asked to arrive early to avoid congestion around the ground in the build up to the game. There will not be any advance tickets on sale at Blundell Park.
