Dumped out the FA Cup!

A FIRST HALF own goal by Alan Neilson saw Grimsby dumped out of the FA Cup by Third Division York to earn the Minstermen a money-spinning tie with Premiership club Fulham.

But for the brilliance of Town 'keeper Danny Coyne the score could have been at least 3-0!

York took the lead on 17 minutes when a low cross behind the defence saw Alan Neilson under pressure from ex-Mariner Lee Nogan, and the former Fulham defender put through his own net while trying to clear the ball.

In the remainder of the first half York created by far the better chances with Danny Butterfield having to make a goal-line clearance, and Coyne saving superbly from a Lee Nogan drive..

Town's best chances came just before the break when the York 'keeper Alan Fettis was forced to make a double save from a Grimsby corner.

After the break Wayne Burnett came close to equalising for the Mariners but it was Coyne who continued to be the busier 'keeper, making two excellent saves from Lee Bullock headers in particular.
