New Terms For Butters

By: Richard Lord
Date: 21/05/2002

DANNY Butterfield has been offered another contract but at reduced terms, contrary to some reports that said the player had been put on the free transfer list. The news came just before Chairman Peter Furneaux revealed his cost-cutting plan to the Grimsby Telegraph.

Furneaux said: "We're not saying that Danny Butterfield will not be offered a new contract, but what we are saying is that we could not afford to offer him a deal which was the same as the one he is currently on.

"If we'd have made him a new offer at the same financial level he would have signed it - that would have been a big slice of our budget for next season." The 22-year old may be tempted to stay at Blundell Park if he accepts a reduced contract offer.

Furneaux also added that the board are trying their best to cut personal costs. Complimentary food and drink were dispensed with at the beginning of last season, and six free season tickets will now be paid for.

Furneaux also stated that the £1m funds from Conoco over the ten years to sponsor the new ground is not available at the current time but will be once the stadium is built.

In other news Phil Jevons has returned to light training after undergoing knee surgery. The player is expected to return to full training at the beginning of June.
