Scandinavian Tour Details

WITH just over a week to go before Town fly out for the appropriately named Costcutter tour, Mariners fans either going or planning to go may need the following info that I have received from Tim Harvey, (plus a few bits gleaned from last year's trip and the Rough Guides to Sweden and Denmark).

Ryanair to Malmo is generally the most popular and cheapest route, although flying into Copenhagen is a more flexible service. Most fans seem to be flying in for the weekend, or Thursday to Monday with prices being around £60 return if you got on early enough with Ryanair. Equally most seem to be planning to stay in Malmo which has many decent mid priced hotels (The Ibis has doubles for about £40 per room per night. Swedish hotel prices go right down in the summer as most Swedes fly South for the sun. We found Sweden if anything to be slightly cheaper than Copenhagen, beer is about £2.50 - £3 a pint. Those who stayed in Malmo last year found it to be a good night out, with Lille Torg the area to go. It is a short 20 minute train ride to Copenhagen which is a very pleasant city, Nyhaven and Tivoli Gardens being the obvious highlights.

Town are playing 3 games. On Thursday 18 July they play AB Copenhagen at Skanor in southern Sweden. Kick off is 19.00. There is a half hourly bus service from Malmo to Skanor which is about 15 miles away. It is a well heeled small seaside town famous for its beaches and golf courses. The 'stadium' is 200m from the bus stop and a good pub is called Gastgwaregarden, near the main square

On Saturday we play Herfolge BK at 16.00 in Herfolge, Denmark. From Copenhagen Central Station take the train (30 minute journey) to Koge, a very pleasant town in itself. From Koge station a 502 bus takes you to Herfolge, from where the 8000 capacity stadium is signposted.

The last game is against BK Frem at 18.30 on Monday 22 July. This is the easiest one to get to and is the most attractive as Frem are doing well in the league and they have a well appointed 12,000 capacity stadium in the Southern suburbs of Copenhagen. From Copenhagen central take the train for Hundige a couple of stops before getting off at Ellebjerg staion.The ground is just a couple of minutes from the station and is signposted.
