Groves Signs Keeper On Loan

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 30/08/2002

THE Mariners have signed 19-year-old former England Youth 'keeper Shaun Allaway from Leeds on a three month loan as cover for Danny Coyne. With Town's second choice between the sticks Steve Croudson not expected back from injury until early November, Allaway gives Paul Groves some breathing space.

Allaway is expected to join up with the Town team at Millwall over the weekend and be named as substitute goalkeeper for the match at the New Den, although Bradley Hughes has travelled down to London with the rest of the squad as a precaution.

The Reading-born shot stopper joined his hometown club in Berkshire as a trainee, before moving to Yorkshire when he signed for Leeds in March 2000 for £300K, although he has never made a first team appearance for either side. The 19-year-old has been a regular with the England Under 20 side in recent months after recovering from a hand injury sustained soon after moving to Elland Road two years ago.
