The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Is it Time for a Consultant?

THREE Goals scored, stuck to the bottom of the table, two points from a possible 21 and out of the first Cup competition, to a side from a lower league. Not a particularly good start to the season, compared to last.

Are the Mariners sailing for the large Iceberg, called non-existence, and into obscurity, with the 2nd Division and maybe administration looming? Perhaps now is the time for the club to get somebody in to give our beloved heroes a steering hand.

If a company is steering itself into trouble, then they get an expert in that particular field, to come in and guide their stricken ship to the safety of clearer and calmer waters, helping them with control, confidence and a maturity that becomes fitting of such an outfit.

Now maybe the time for the club to do such a thing, with Paul Groves et al working hard at their job, but seeming to be going nowhere, very fast, has arrived.

There does happen to be, a certain, out of work ex-Town Manager, who lives locally, has previously done some great work for the club, on the field. He also happens to be Town's most successful Manager.ever.

Winning promotion after promotion, mid and upper table mediocrity in the 1st Division, and gain Town's only 2 appearances at the Twin Towers, Wembley. A 100% record there, not a fact many teams can make a claim to.

But with this come the trials and tribulations of his 2 previous departures. This person creates feelings in Town fans that are very rarely felt, he divides them, and you either love or loathe this person.

His PR leaves a lot to be desired, he left to go to WBA without a bye your leave, then, during his second time as manager, was sacked from the club, tit-for-tat? We, as fans, will never know the real reasons why this happened, his comments regarding the club on Sky were, to say the least, were inflammatory.

There seems to be 2 sides to this person, a footballing side, which we all, however grudgingly, have to admire, and his off the park side, which we all, however grudgingly, deplore.

People may come up with other names and ideas for a solution, but at the end of the day you have to think, "Who else would want to come here?", especially with the way the board are acting at the moment, maybe no-one.

This is a highly debateable Idea, one which will cause a big furore, this piece has attempted to put a balanced and organised argument both for and against, and has attempted to be subjective, but everyone's perception of this person is, at the end of the day, highly emotive.
