The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Can You Be Counted On?

WITH Grimsby Town Football Club plunging further into the financial abyss, plans are being set in an attempt to keep the club afloat. The word has already gone out that the club are heading towards a 500,000 blow out that will probably reach more than 750,000 by the end of the season.

Amazingly, no official statement has yet been made by the club, but it is quite clear that unless someone or some group are prepared to put money into the club, any suggestion that might include some expenditure is likely to fall on deaf ears. So one can forget any talk of new players being signed.

There are already plans to offload two more players either by loan or transfer to reduce even further the wages bill and although there have been no indications yet of any proposed changes, the youth development programme may well fall into the firing line if the situation does not ease.

There can be no doubt that the directors would be aware of the anger of the fans if this was to occur but if they are left with no other option and the future of the club is threatened, one can sympathise with them in having to make the hard decisions.

One of the proposals presently being considered is the release of the 360,000 shares that remain unsold and requires the consent of 75% of the shareholders to place them on the market.

The question that must also be troubling the board is, if the shares are placed on sale, how many can they sell. To try to gauge the demand, we have created a new question of the week.

Would you be prepared to buy shares in the club at one pound each, knowing that the share sale represents a very significant amount of cash to the club at the present time?

Can the club count on you if the appeal goes out?

Please give us your answer by responding to the question of the week which is on the right of this article.

The results will be passed on to the club.
