Reading Report Card

YET another defeat for the Mariners. Can it get any worse? Dr Fishy explains who was good and who was not so good, with the latter category being very overloaded with certain individuals!

Danny Coyne
Not a very good game at all for the Welshman. Exposed by the, ahem, defenders, for most of the game. Made a few routine saves and to be fair had no chance with the goals, kicking was again terrible.
Grade: C-
John McDermott
One of few who emerged with credit. For some unknown reason, Reading moved Tony Rougier onto the left wing later in the game and his threat was removed by Macca.
Grade: C+
Darren Barnard
Ughh. Absolutely awful, Rougier ripped him apart, he drifted in and even when he did stand up to the winger he showed him inside all the time! Didn’t really look interested.
Grade: D-
Simon Ford
Worst game for Town, off the pace for the majority of the game. Failed to use his pace to best effect, rarely ventured out of his own half either. Can do much better.
Grade: D
Paul Raven
Lack of pace was worrying at times but he was very commanding in the air and made two goal line clearances. At times was covering Ford and he did try to create from the back.
Grade: C+
Terry Cooke
Put under pressure by Groves to perform and didn’t really respond. A few little runs here and there but nothing inspiring. Another who can do much better.
Grade: C-
Stuart Campbell
Same old problem of drifting in off the wing, although he did drop very deep to help Barnard throughout the game.
Grade: C-
Alan Pouton
Very, very lucky to be keeping his place. Step-overs don’t win matches. No tacking, no running forward, no anything. Farcical own goal to boot.
Grade: D
Stacy Coldicott
Battled as he always will but his play is never going to create goals. Kept the Reading midfield at bay as much as possible.
Grade: C
Darren Mansaram
Asking an 18-year-old to bail us out of the brown stuff is unfair as well as a sign of the state we’re in. ‘Flash’ did what he could, fought for the scraps he was fed on and never stopped trying.
Grade: C
Steve Kabba
Same that goes for his strike partner, at this rate he probably can’t wait to get back to Palace reserves. Clearly best when running with ball so why do we hit the ball 10 feet above his head?
Grade: C
Subs:
None of the subs made an impact on the game although it will be interesting to see how Santos play’s when he’s played in midfield or defence. Not up front.
Grade Guide
A* | This is almost impossible to achieve as I will refuse to give anyone this grade - unless they score six goals and get opposing players sent off. |
A | This is more possible to achieve, although the player must have had a brilliant game i.e. he can't have put a foot wrong all match. |
A- | The player must have performed superbly, setting up goals, scoring goals, making match-winning tackles etc. |
B+ | The player played to a very high standard indeed having been influential throughout the 90 minutes. |
B | This can be achieved if the player had a very good game overall but could be forgiven for making one or two minor mistakes. |
B- | The player put in a performance worthy of special mention for his efforts on the pitch or otherwise having a good game. |
C+ | A mark for players who have had an average game but at the same time played well in patches and may have had an impact on the final score. |
C | An average performance but not worthy of being dropped for the next game - a competent performance. |
C- | Start thinking about the player's attitude and commitment on the pitch. Showed little effort and was probably invisible for most of the match. |
D+ | Poor game and realistically shouldn't feature in the next game. |
D | This player shouldn't be playing in the near future. |
D- | The player deserves to be fined for his abysmal performance |
E | The player should be sacked |
F | And then shot |
