The Fishy - Grimsby Town FC

Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Milestone For "Fishy"

By: The Fishy Team
Date: 16/04/2003

THE Fishy has now reached a total of 5,000 pages. This makes it one the biggest independent supporters sites in the Rivals network, and the largest and most popular fans site on the entire Internet with up to 50,000 page impressions per day. (audited figures)

It is also soon to achieve 2,000 registered subscribers to the Message Board but hundreds more, who do not use the Message Board facility and fans from other clubs and subscribers to other sites bring a total of approximately 3,000 people regularly to the site.

BRIEF HISTORY

The Fishy was originally the Grimsby Town International Supporters Club website, which gradually developed into a site for all Mariners fans which enabled us to make the decision to create a new site for GTISC and place the Fishy into the Rivals Network.

Since joining the Rivals Network, the Fishy has become a source for newspaper and radio journalists who constantly seek comments, opinions and information from us. In return we have built a strong network of contacts and sources in the media, football clubs and other participants in the football industry such as agents, commentators and feature writers.

The Fishy has a team comprising up to a dozen writers plus subscribers who write regularly for the site. These contributions enable the site to be updated more frequently than any other independent football site.

The aims of The Fishy are

  • To keep Grimsby Town fans up to date with the news and events relating primarily to the Mariners and all other events and news in football that will have an effect on GTFC.

  • To be the site that fans can rely on to get all the news collected from various sources!.

  • To provide a forum for fans to voice their views, comments and opinions about anything related to Grimsby Town football club and football in general.

  • To provide accurate information on what is happening at Grimsby Town, in the news and behind the scenes.

  • To create a feeling of 'ownership' by Grimsby Town fans who have adopted the Fishy as "their" site thereby bringing together people who share the same passion for Grimsby Town Football Club.

But the real success of the Fishy has been the subscribers. No site, however technically competent, can be labelled a success without its subscribers and ours have been an important part of the Fishy through the comments, views, feedback and articles they contribute to the site.

Features such as the POM and the relegation calculator have created great interest throughout the whole Rivals network and have been copied in some form or other by many other sites.

The Fishy is also a financial supporter of the Mariners through its kit sponsorships and contributions to other fundraising activities and regularly contributes to other groups or sites who request our financial support, providing that the funds raised are directed to the club in some form. The Fishy also presents a trophy to its 'player of the year' voted for by the subscribers.

We thank all those who have played a part in our success so far. 5,000 pages is a milestone for the Fishy and we look forward to continually improving all that we do in making this site your first port of call.

The Fishy - The fans' choice!
