LAST week, we scoured and debated any possible Mariners signings from the 586 free agents this summer, but in another edition of "who will he buy?" we now take a closer look at some more realistic targets for Paul Groves.

The Facts

Is a move likely?
Would be the kind of player that would interest Groves : he can play in a two different positions - two positions Town need to fill - and can score a goal or two division two level. However, doubts remain over whether he would be interested in a move to Town. | |

The Facts

Is a move likely?
Age is not really on his side, at 31, however, he could be the experienced forward that Paul Groves is looking for, especially if he dispenses with the services of Steve Livingstone. Would certainly be a useful player to have in the squad, but he is supposedly wanted by Blackpool. | |
Likeliness Rating: 4 |
John O'Kane | |
---|---|
The Facts
| |
Is a move likely?
Possible, especially if John McDermott leaves the club when Groves probably will want to sign some sort of replacement. The fact that he can also play at centre back is also an added bonus - neither would he cost too much in the way of wages. | |
Likeliness Rating: 2 |
Aidan Davison | |
---|---|
The Facts
| |
Is a move likely?
IF Danny Coyne moves on, which is looking more likely with Coventry and Burnley interested, then a move for Davison would not be out of the question. Groves is a personal friend of Davison, and so long as personal terms could be agreed, he could make a return - but it all depends on the future of Coyne. | |
Likeliness Rating: 5 |
Gus Uhlenbeek | |
---|---|
The Facts
| |
Is a move likely?
Like Davison, any deal depends entirely on the future of existing Town players. If John McDermott goes then the door opens for players like Uhlenbeek. If Macca stays, then no deal will be done. However, should Town be searching for a right back, Uhlenbeek would fit the bill, depending on whether he would be willing to play in the second division on lower wages. | |

5 Distinct possibility of signing
4 Depends on wages and willingness to move
3 Might need lots of persuasion to sign any contract
2 May be willing to move, but will Town be interested?
