Scunny Sack Laws

FORMER Grimsby Town manager Brian Laws has departed from neighbours Scunthorpe "by mutual consent" after spending over seven years as Glanford Park, who he joined after being sacked as manager of Grimsby in 1996.

The move has come as little surprise after a disastrous season for Scunthorpe, which sees the Iron just four points clear of the Division Three relegation zone. The final straw proved to be Tuesday night's 3-2 home defeat to bottom of the table Carlisle United.

Last season Laws guided Scunthorpe to the play-offs, in which the North Lincolnshire outfit were beaten by local rivals Lincoln City. Assistant manager Russ Wilcox has been put in charge of team affairs at Glanford Park.

Coincidentally former Town boss Paul Groves today settled his pay dispute with the Mariners and signed a playing contract with Scunthorpe until the end of the season.
