Reddy Robs The Robins!

THREE fantastic goals by the Mariners ensured them a valuable win at Cheltenham last night, but Town twice threw away the lead due to basic goalkeeping errors by Anthony Williams. A brace from Reddy and a bizarre Terry Fleming goal saw Town grab the points.

Russell Slade shuffled his pack to accommodate Thomas Pinault, and give Town a 4-4-2 formation. Ramsden moved to left back in place of Greg Young, and Fleming played wide on the right. Parkinson moved to wide left, with Reddy and Gritton up front.

Town got off to a great start, and almost scored two goals in the first minute. Gritton blasted a shot which the `keeper just tipped round the post. From the resulting corner Rob Jones side-footed the ball agonisingly wide.

Town went one nil up through a bizarre incident. Cheltenham cleared a ball out of their area, and the ball came to Terry Fleming on the touchline about 40 yards out. As the `keeper was out of his area, Fleming speculatively hit the ball in the direction of goal. The trajectory of the ball meant it was in the air for several tantalising seconds, but gradually it became apparent that the ball was heading towards the goal, and eventually it nestled neatly into the goal - to the delight of the Town fans behind it!

Town's lead was short-lived. A straightforward cross into Town's box was missed by Williams, and Guinan was perfectly placed on the far post to head into an empty goal.

Williams made his amends, though, as he stood up well to save from a one-on-one with a Cheltenham player, and then made a fingertip save shortly afterwards.

Town almost went ahead again when Michael Reddy just failed to get his foot to a great cross from about one yard out. It hit the back of his heel and went out for a goal kick.

Early in the second Town went 2-1 up. Gritton put Reddy through on goal, and the Irishman coolly slipped the ball into the Robins' net.

With Town now largely controlling the game, once again a Williams mistake let the home side back in. A ball into the box was allowed to go past Town's defenders, and Williams was too slow to react to prevent it going into the net. Although the Welshman seemed to blame the defenders in front of him, it seemed to be his shout.

But Town had the last laugh. Pinault once again put Reddy through, and he lobbed the `keeper superbly from a narrow angle. It was no more than Town's play deserved.
