BURY football club were delighted with not only the result on Friday but were delighted with the response to their 'Fill the Ground' appeal which was attended by supporters from around the UK.

Fans of Sunderland, Preston North End, Rochdale, Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Stoke City, Ipswich Town, West Ham United, Burnley, Wigan Athletic, Oldham Athletic and Bayern Munich helped to bring the crowd to 5,617 on their special day.

Graham Barrow the Bury manager was very happy with the result telling their official site; "That was a little bit of revenge if anything, I've got to praise the public though, because the players responded to them, that's all I can ask for and that's the most important thing today. Supporters and players united together today, and we got something going."

"It was a proper football match today, it wasn't full but it was damn near, we had something like it last week down at Yeovil, and it's amazing what a difference it makes, we worked hard on it today, but we have to thank the public for the response that we saw today."

"It was a great turnout, you can never guarantee anything in football, and they players gave everything today. To lose two of the back three from last weekend was hard, but to then lose Lee Unsworth and Jon Newby through injury today is hard, but to come through like we did and win the game against a very good Grimsby side is pleasing."

"They have some good strikers, probably as better as any others in this league, so all credit to the players for getting the result. It was a good start and it was something off the training ground, something that we have worked on, and it worked today."

But an angry Russell Slade made it quite clear after the Bury match that it has cost some players their contract renewals telling mariners Net that the poor performance has made his mind up.

"One or two players have made my mind up as to whether they will be here next season. I've made my thoughts very clear in the dressing room after the game."

"It was the worst possible start again - we didn't deal with the ball straight from the kick-off. To defend set plays like we did is massively disappointing."

"Worse was to follow, the second goal was even worse. We made changes at half-time and we sparked into life for 10 minutes. We got a goal back and then we couldn't defend another corner - that was that. It was completely unprofessional."
