The Kiss of Death! |
Slade Beaten to Award

TOWN boss Russell Slade was pipped to the September Manager of the Month award by Wycombe's John Gorman, despite the Mariners having acquired more league points over the month than the Chairboys.
Grimsby also knocked Spurs out of the Carling Cup (Wycombe lost to Villa) during September and beat two of their own club records for unbeaten away games.
Ironically John Gorman's Wycombe will face their first game since receiving the award against the Mariners on Friday night.
The last Grimsby manager to win the award, which notoriously conveys the "kiss of death" on the recipient was Lennie Lawrence (left) on 14th September 2001. Town promptly went 9 league games without a win, and Lawrence was sacked just over two months later!
Russell Slade told Radio Humberside that he was relieved to have not won the award.
