Beat the Bookies: Week 29

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 17/02/2006

RECENT results mean the favourites to win League Two have changed hands several times, with the Mariners briefly being in poll position for the first time this season. Currently Wycombe are most favoured, with my bet, Carlisle, now slightly down to 5/1 from 11/2. Town are third favourites at 9/2.

Top of the League Two form table are Lincoln, who have picked up 16 points from the last 18. Consequently I have cashed in my bet for the Imps to do poorly, made at the start of the season, which netted a profit of £12. Had I done so earlier I could have collected £20 or more, but hadn't anticipated the Imps' revival.

There are some interesting games this weekend, which means Town are unlikely to get let off so slightly if they lose at Rochdale. Northampton and Carlisle face the bottom two clubs Torquay and Rushden respectively and are both around 1/2 to win with bet365.com.

Wycombe, who like Town are not firing on all cylinders at late, are 6/4 to win at Boston with bet365.com. Grimsby are 13/10 to win at Rochdale, whose form has slipped of late. However, the Mariners will be without Michael Reddy, and in truth have struggled for most of 2006. Therefore 7/4 with bet365.com for a Rochdale win looks attractive.

Elsewhere Swansea are a good price to 6/4 with bet365.com to win at struggling Scunthorpe. The high-flying Swans should overcome the Iron.

In the FA Cup I think Brentford at worth backing to win away at Charlton. bet365.com are currently offering 6/1 for a Bees' win.

RECOMMENDED BET OF THE WEEK:
Rochdale to beat Grimsby
