Town Lose Out To Cheltenham

THE Mariners went down at the Millenium Stadium today against a Cheltenham side that controlled most of the game, took their chances and scored the only goal.

It seemed that no one in Town's side really created anything with their attacks not achieving anything.

There will be great sadness around the town with the news that we are to spend another season in League two and there will certainly be some recriminations.

But the truth is, we should have tied up promotion weeks back but instead, we are rueing the missed chances in the last few games.

I suppose the main question will be about Russell Slade's position. Will he stay or will he choose to go? He has achieved a great deal this season and a manager that takes a team to the playoffs albeit losing should be judged successful but, as Keith Alexander has shown this week, it means nothing without gaining the trophy.

There will more than a few calling for Slade's head after today but they should also be calling for the heads of the players who were just not up to it.

A sad finish to an exciting season!
