League Awarded £4 in ITV Digital Court Case

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 24/06/2006

THE Football League has been awarded £4 (four single pounds) in its claim for £150m in damages from its former legal advisers over the ITV Digital collapse. The League has also been ordered to pay 90% of the defendants legal costs.

The league were suing for £150m from Edge Ellison (now Hammonds Solicitors) who they claim failed in its duty to protect its commercial interests during negotiations with ITV Digital for the licensing of its broadcasting rights in 2000.

The judge found two breaches of duty for which he awarded £4.

It claimed it should have been advised to seek guarantees from ITV Digital's owners Carlton and Granada. Peter Crossley, Hammonds' managing partner, said: "This judgment confirms that the Football League's losses on the collapse of ITV Digital were the result of its own decisions and conduct, not those of Edge Ellison."

Ed Town's share of the four pounds is 4.43478226 pence.
