GRIMSBY Town defender Ryan Bennett is on standby for the England Under 18's after he received a letter from the FA on Friday and he is waiting for a call to join the squad for the friendly with Ghana on November 20th.

Bennett, who is 17 told Mariners Net: "My dad rang me and told me that I'd got a letter to say that I'd been put on standby for England Under 18's against Ghana.

"It's great to know that people have been watching me, and to get a bit of recognition for what I've been doing. Article continues

"It's a big honour for me to even be considered. When you look at the squad, there's one from the Championship and a keeper from Huddersfield, the rest are from Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

"Obviously they are all Premiership youngsters and they have been playing for England since they were under 16's. "It is a great achievement to get a letter. Coming here from Ipswich has given me the chance to play first team football, they won't be as fortunate as me, they probably won't have had the experience of first team football."
