Beat the Bookies: Week 15

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 19/11/2007

IT was the fault of Beat the Bookies that Grimsby lost this week to Morecambe, we made the mistake of tipping them to win the big match at Blundell Park on Saturday. We're sorry and we won't do it again.

This week Town once more have two games, and the injuries and suspensions are really starting to mount, and at the same time confidence has plummeted to an all time low.

Town did well in the cup games last week but it's hard to see them repeating their success after Saturday's performance. Carlisle start as favourites to win the replay, and you can more than double your money by backing them at 11/10 to win the fixture in 90 minutes.

The following night sees one of the greatest bets of modern times, Croatia unbelievably are almost 9/1 to win at Wembley against an England side decimated by injuries. The theory that Croatia have nothing to play for is utter nonsense. They are playing for one of the most patriotic nations in Europe at the greatest football stadium in the world against one of the top nations with some of the best known players in the modern game. The Croats have the chance to spoil England's party. How can they have nothing to play for? Saturday's games showed how foolish a statement that is. It would be a foolish mistake not to back England to throw their lifeline away.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Carlisle to beat Grimsby (13/10, bet365).
  • 2. Croatia to beat England (9.6, Betfair).
