Beat the Bookies: Week 18

By: Rob Sedgwick

LAST week's win for Grimsby meant a losing tip for Beat the Bookies, but it was worth it! Dagenham also had a tremendous win over Wrexham which meant our second prediction lost as well.

This week Grimsby have a home game against bottom of the table Mansfield. It is very hard to predict how Town will do after their topsy turvy form of recent weeks. They have tended to do poorly against the better teams in League Two, but have performed better against the struggling teams. Mansfield have had one or two very good results this season and bizarrely are bottom of the league with a goal difference of just -4, although of course they have not won many games. For the record Grimsby are Evens to win the game, and the Stags are 5/2. This sounds about right.

Elsewhere Morecambe are having an excellent season and this weekend head off to Wycombe who have gone off the boil in recent weeks and even lost 6-0 at Stockport on Saturday. Morecambe in contrast have won their last three games and are good value at 5/2.

Wrexham v Brentford sees a battle of two strugglers at the bottom. Brentford, having sacked Terry Butcher today, are likely to see a sudden improvement now he has gone, and they looked a reasonable team short of confidence when we played them last week. Terry Butcher would seem to be as limited a manager as he was a player. Brentford at 5/2 are very good odds to win the game against a team who got thrashed by Dagenham last week!

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Morecambe to beat Wycombe (5/2, bet365).
  • 2. Brentford to beat Wrexham (5/2, bet365).
