Beat the Bookies: Week 26

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/02/2008

WREXHAM'S win over Darlo ensured another big payday for Beat the Bookies and its followers. The Welsh club are on a great run at the moment, now that they have bought half a new side, shame nobody has told the bookies that!

Grimsby's chalked up another unbeaten match last week at Notts County, where for once they got less than they deserved from a game. This week they play Chesterfield at Blundell Park. It was one of the most undeserved victories Town have ever had when they won at Saltergate last month and Chesterfield will be up for revenge. In recent games at Blundell Park Town have struggled against poor sides; now it is their turn to face a good side with a decent following and the odds bet365.com are offering of 15/8 for a Chesterfield win are too good to turn down. Backing Town to win at 5/4 at the moment is not good value as their recent form has not been good, despite the excellent results, and it's mainly been against the weaker sides in the division. For those who fancy Jack Lester to score, who of course was suspended in the game at Saltergate, bet365.com are offering 2/1 for him to score at any time, or 6/1 to score the first goal.

Elsewhere in League Two Wrexham are once more an excellent team to back at the moment, with half a new team acquired of late! They face another difficult trip to Peterborough. Posh have a poor record against the sides near the bottom of the league, and 5/1 is well worthy of consideration.

Milton Keynes Dons have been stuttering of late, especially at home and this week face high-flying Rotherham at the stadium:mk. When Town played there their home support seemed to comprise schoolchildren who had been shipped in for free, so it is anything but a fortress for the Dons, as the number of times they have lost at home will testify. Rotherham are definitely worth an investment of your hard-earned cash. You can get 11/4 with bet365. Do not miss out!

This week there are three good bets so we will the unprecedented step of recommending them all!

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Chesterfield to beat Grimsby (15/8, bet365).
  • 2. Wrexham to beat Peterborough (5/1, bet365).
