Martin Paterson | 2007/08 | 15 (0) | 6 goals |
Unknown teenage prodigy who was signed on loan from Stoke City during the 2006/2007 season. He was brought to the club by Alan Buckley, and as well as Anthony Pulis and Peter Till and he became the first new signing in Buckley's third era in charge.
Paterson scored on his debut for Grimsby, and went on to hit a fair few goals in a 2 month stay at Blundell Park. Paterson was hailed a minor hero, and when the season came to an end, Buckley stepped up his chase too re-sign Paterson on a permanent deal. Funnily enough he did choose to leave Stoke......and joined local rivals Scunthorpe United....before moving on to Burnley the following season.
Paterson will start the 2009/2010 season as a Premiership footballer for Burnley. Interviewed after the play off final victory over Sheffield United, Paterson said "Two years ago I was living in a B&B playing for Grimsby Town, now I'm playing in the Premiership for Burnley"
