Interesting selection !! Has the Cook for the shop been a forced changed ? I have my doubts. Not sure I would have dropped Rodman but hopefully the one sided approach will work.

In the abandoned game, Norwood was very dangerous so hopefully this lopsided midfield will deal with him better than the previous attempt to play this game. UTM

Or Cook will be subbed when finally it sinks in that he's as likely to score as any of our useless strikers.

The hand-wringing despair on here every time we fail to win is tedious. Every team, even really good ones, frequently fail to win games. We're not a really good one so unsurprisingly we regularly fail to win games. We're unbeaten in 4 and tonight is a tricky away game at a decent side in decent form. People need some perspective.

Steady Rodders...that sort of good sense on here can get you a negative reputation...Where is Ackomariner tonight anyway? Hopefully cheering on Cookie at FGR.

Not PH's number one fan but agree cannot be bleating at every toss and turn and the game does last ninety minutes and whilst I am not over optimistic lets at least wait until the end of the game before we start the abuse. After the game critical comments are fine and I admit to suggesting a managerial change after watching the Hereford game but after calming down appreciate no changes will, or should be made, until season is over

I think you should up your expectations ,We have the second biggest support ,the second biggest wage bill ,the manager has had over 3 years to find his team ,He still has no idea who his best 11 are and we are spunking points up the wall to anyone that puts a shift in against us. We have not played well in the league most the season and yet still you still expect me to have faith ?

For every game that Town p**s about for the first 2-30 minutes in I'll have a go at them. That's tedious. And frustrating and downright unprofessional. There's something wrong at the core of a team that consistently does this and we have a manager who obviously is at a loss as to how to address that problem.

Town have not been averaging enough points to make the playoffs since January even with the games in hand, need to go on a run... can't see that coming.
Let's hope we bang 3 goals in the second half, can't see that happening either, but stranger things have happend, like medicore sides getting promoted.

Butter, Flour and milk - first you make a Roux sauce and add slightly warm milk and season to taste.

Why have we waited until the second half after gifting Forest Green 2 goals to start playing like this?

Maybe it's the Forest Green players turn to be a disgrace this half.

OK - I'm going to try a bit of thought projection now. Just googled it: "It's not as simple as it seems and requires intense concentration. Strong powers of visualization are good to have to visualize the person you wish to influence. This technique is extremely effective if it can be properly controlled and perfected."
OK - Sam Hatton free kick swerves past that Sam Russell.
We get a corner. Shaun Pearson rises above the FGR defence for our third.
Hannah replaces somebody or other.
Lee Hughes defending, chops down Aswad, who has been roaming forward. Hannah sticks the penalty past Sam Russell.

Good 2nd half from Town but damage was done. Sort out that ridiculous sluggish start and I'd be confident of play-offs and promotion, but I can't see it being suddenly remedied now.

Very poor first half, which effectively lost us the game.
Much better second half and attacked FGR and created good chances.

I've had depressing seasons as a town fan, and seasons of mid table obscurity, but can't remember a season like this where the team had us hooked on a promotion chase all season, on the verge of success and blowing it at the same time, for months on end. So hard to to relax and say we might get in the playoffs and we might get this many wins, and to just sit back and relax and live through the inconsistancy, rather than thinking of course we'll make the playoffs one week, wondering what we'll be like when we're in them, to thinking theres a very good chance we won't make them. Its actual torture, I just want to skip to the end.

Can you blame people for being fed up? We get a win on Saturday and throw away any momentum in the next match! Negative tactics from the manager, worrying about the opposition, rather than making them worry about us! And surprise surprise we were 2 down in the first half hour. I know we have games in hand, but our form is poor (3 wins in 10) and so I'm not sure whether we'll even make the play offs this season!

If you look at that game as a yardstick for the playoffs it really doesn't bode well. Forest Green are the type of opponent we're likely to meet at some point in the playoffs and we have to be better than we were tonight if we want to get promoted. We can't go into the first leg of a playoff game and gift the opponent two goals by making individual mistakes or switching off when defending a set piece like we did in the first thirty minutes tonight. Is Paul Hurst capable of getting our players to put in a proper performance over the full 90 minutes and solving the problem with our misfiring strikers? I'm not really sure (sacking him any time before the end of the season would be totally daft though).

Don't think I heard Disley's name all second half, if he isn't worthy of a place in the centre then Rodman or McLaughlin should play instead.
Cook no better than LJL, missed chances too but maybe didn't hold up as well.

Decent balanced view. Surely it's time for some of our players especially the strikers to step up and deliver. It must be hard for any manager...Cook does really well on Saturday when he comes on but doesn't appear to carry it forward to tonight. Connor Jennings has an off day-a proven striker at this level. Only Neilson appears to have an inkling as to where the goal is. On that subject am I alone in thinking that it is bizarre that (apparently) he still cannot last 90 minutes?

It is noticeable how a match thread of a win gets 5 pages, a defeat is 11 and counting. Know that is partly because less people able to go away so posting here but still.
This!! Seriously it reminds me of the old adage "the despair I don't mind, the hope I can't stand!" The seasons of nothingness in the Conference were awful but this last 3 months have been the most frustrating I can remember, the constant games in hand, the constant promise of a run of good form, just enough to keep us hanging on and then 2-0 down inside a half against a rival. I really cannot see a change of manager or anything like that improving things so lets continue to back us and let the dice fall where they may at the end of the season but please oh please may Paul Hurst or any of the players understand the frustration we are feeling and make it that bit easier for us by winning 4 of our next 5 games! I'll even take 3!

Neilson played the full 90 on Saturday didn't he?

According to Scott himself he's ok to play for the full 90

If we win this, I will eat my own lightly poached testes served on a saltine cracker dressed with a sprig of dill and a Béchamel sauce.

Still got your rose tinted glasses on I see
Well maybe some people on here are sick to the back teeth of reading yours and a few others outlook of how were doing
It won't hurt you know to say " we were shite tonight" instead of thinking everything will be ok, we will hit form soon, blah blah, blah
Shouldn't you be verbally abusing female contributors to this forum? The rose tinted glasses line has been used many times before on this forum surprisingly (not) directed at people who refuse to sink to the depths of despair that people like you do. If you want a team that wins just about every game go and support Chelsea.. I wasn't there but listening to the radio we clearly were NOT shite for 90 minutes tonight. Didn't anyone ever teach you that if you are going to criticise that you actually need to be able to back it up with some evidence or at least give a considered opinion. No? Thought not! Quite a few people are sick to the back teeth of your particular type of criticism. It won't hurt to provide a bit of balance to your opinions.

And he did, on Saturday against Wrexham.
Yeah I realise that Les Just a couple of weeks ago when he was interviewed by RH though, he said he didn't know why he was the one who kept getting subbed and wasn't playing for the full 90 He admitted at the start of the season his fitness was under question but that's not an issue now and if an answer was needed only the manager could say why he kept on being subbed It was more what Scotty didn't say than what he did say that told me he wasn't happy to be the one who usually comes off

Well he can't exactly take disley off can he? If he takes disley off the team has no disley, and how can you have a football team without a disley? Its the famous football adage, I think it was shankly or ferguson who said "One goal is worth 30 misplaced passes" and "When you are not sure what a players role in a team is, he's the most important player in that team"

So what words of wisdom did our inglorious leader come up with tonight then? Any good excuses for abysmal first half or were we "unlucky" again?

I didn't verbally abuse the female poster, all I said was it wasn't a convincing win on sat against Wrexham , to which the poster replied and said that she said " result" . I read her post again and the lady was correct, but I don't really consider that to be verbally abusing someone. As for my comment tonight did I say anything about saying we were shite tonight? No is your answer....so don't know where you've got that one from really And as for my particular type of criticism , you might not want to hear it but I tell the truth and if it offends people I apologize , but I won't change my opinion . By the way town are my team, not Chelsea

Tonight? Never said tonight in my post to you did I? As for tonight's game I only finished work at 8.30 pm so only got the second half, but it sounds like I got to hear the best half of the game and it sounded like town gave it a good go , but that's all fans ask for. Hurts does seem massively down in the dumps, maybe struggling on his own when the going gets tough?
I still think we should keep faith with Hurst, he's doing ok but does seem to be getting an awful lot of stick instead of the players, theres only so much he can do.

Can't agree with you on this - it's not all been bad in the past three years - but I have started to wonder what next? It's really starting to bug me that we only seem to play for half a game - if we do succeed in getting in to the play offs, play like we did for the first 45 tonight and that's it season over. No second chance... Now is that the manager's fault or the players letting him and us down? They must know before they step out that we all expect them to do their best (PH included) but when they go missing for half the match, what to do? The players should be playing for their own and the manager's future (as well as for us fans) but sometimes you do just wonder what they are doing out there - surely they have some ambition?

Well that's another fine night for Paul "we looked sharp in training and on any other night we would have got something" Hurst. I know what to do. Lets put our captain and top scoring centre mid on the wing and totally out of the game and let's bring off Neilson, who has scored and hit the post and is the only player apart from the captain who is scoring with any regularity.
A month ago, we were 1 point from the play offs with 5 games in hand. We are now 1 point from the play offs with 3 games in hand. I keep telling myself we will get in the play offs but we are averaging barely over a point a game for a quarter of the season, so if we don't shake ourselves soon, we will drift away. That's now 14 points from 12 games.
FGR had the first half, created about 4 chances, scored 2 and hit the post. We had the second half, created numerous chances and scored 1 and also hit the post and there is the problem in a nutshell. I've lost count of the games when our strikers have failed to score. Jennings couldn't stop scoring at Macclesfield. We'll soon put a stop to those shenanigans young man.
Tonight's game was the whole season in miniature. Inconsistent from game to game and half to half. Can't defend and can't score.
These are just observations of course. In no way am i moaning. No not me. Honest Guv'nor.

Marginally better though than listening to your defeatist, miserable outlook after the team loses an away fixture to one of the better sides in this league.
Well said barralad,it seems to be the same ones that crawl out of the wood after every defeat, where are they when we win, some people just like to have a good moan.Perhaps be a good idea to start a thread for anyone who wishes to have a good moan about anything and everything, and people could view it if they want. I say if you feel the cap fits, wear it.Lets get behind the manager and the team,we are still in with a good position of reaching the playoffs. So stop moaning and start cheering.I was a FGR lastnight, and yes it was disappointing to come away without winning, but we did deserve something out of the game with our secondhalf performance.

We have 3 wins in 10 and Hurst doesn't seem too alarmed. He thought we started well for the first 2.30 secs? I have absolutely no confidence in the bloke and not making the play-offs would be his job, not winning the play-offs could also cost him his job and I don't think there would be many who could argue against it. He's had THREE YEARS to get a team together and still rotates because he's no idea what team he wants. He thought the midfield 3 was a good idea and claims it's easy to say it didn't work after the event, so why is it everybody on the flipping planet can tell you that Disley on the wing is NOT going to work except the pillock paid to make the choices. He has his favorites and as a team we pay for it, takes a dig at Cook for his missed chances tonight yet I don't think he's ever ever said that about LJL despite LJL missing a sitter every single game. LJL simply will not get enough goals. I don't buy this 'he holds it up though' or 'If he could score and hold the ball up he wouldn't be at this level' so what? Cunnington & Tomlinson hold the ball up and score goals too, why do we justify LJL still playing up front when he cannot do the main bulk of his job as a striker? There are plenty of strikers at this level who hold the ball up and score goals, it's a really urine poor excuse. People used similar ones for Danny North and Serge flipping Makofo, it's simply clutching at straws. If he was THAT good at it, we wouldn't be so short of goals lately. On CURRENT form (i'm basing it on the last 12 games as we've got 12 games left) we'll end the season with 71 points, a total that is way off what was good enough for the last 7-8 seasons (probably more, i've not looked any further back). That would be a complete and utter disaster and there's only one man to blame. If people think i'm being fickle, i've been saying this for some weeks now, whether we win or lose. Hurst is not good enough to take this side up and if by some miracle he does, we'll have a monumental struggle to stay up next season.

And its the same old ones who keep boring on about games in hand, we will hit some luck soon blah blah blah.. Now as you put the old cliche "we deserved something out the game " how many times have you said that since christmas hey? You ask me to stop moaning and start cheering, well what do you want to cheer about?... Have a think and let me know. What have we achieved in 3 years paul hurst has been at the helm, have a think on that one too and let me know. I am not going to keep being happy and cheery as you say while we are 9th in the league with one of the biggest budgets in it. Oh and you can stick the old chestnut "we have games in hand if if if" up your bottom, 3 wins in the last 12 matches with only Aldershot, hereford tamworth and hyde below us in the form guide.

Says it all really. Their performance against us on New Years Day was probably one of the worst I've seen from any team since being in this league and although we weren't brilliant on the day still looked better in every department. Now they are closing in on us. Shows how bad our form has been since January, it really has been abysmal (performances too)

Agreed that sacking him now is not an option but without meaning to be negative I really can't see us getting promoted this season. Performances and results since the turn of the year have been poor and IMO we don't deserve to go up this season. I can see us making the play off's but if we fail again I think Hurst will be gone and we should be pushing the boat out for Steve Burr or Gary Mills. Mills would be my preference.

Losing narrowly away at the side with the biggest wage bill in the division is hardly a disgrace. We're still on target for promotion.

It's a bit sad but I worked out if that's true last night. It's not. Based on what the sides above us did in however many games they've got remaining, we will finish 8th. So if we did exactly as we did in the last 12 games (we have 12 left) we'll have 71 points. The play-offs on current form will be; Cambridge, Alfreton, Nuneaton & Forest Green.

The cap obviously fits then jonnyboy. You ask what do I want to cheer about, one thing is that Thanks to Mr.Fenty I have a club to support and as a true supporter I will support GTFC through thick and thin for as long as we have a club. I personally have not mentioned us being in a good position because of games in hand.obviously they count for nothing but 1 point off the playoffs isnt a bad position to be in.I know we need to improve our performances but this is possible. Last night was an example, we were by far the best team in the second half and I still stick by we deserved something from the game. You ask what we have achieved in the last 3 years, well you let me know what we achieved in the previous 3 years. By the way we are 8th in the League not 9th. Keep yer chin up jonnyboy and keep the faith with OUR club. Come out of the wood more often, not just when we lose.

Worried that I might be starting to agree with you, I have been positive for a while now but the negativity around GTFC at the minute seems to be looming large and every time we have something that might be a spark (Tonkoura loan, Jennings loan, beating Wrexham etc.) it just doesn't last and within a game or two at best it all seems pretty bad again. However as you say no point sacking Hurst now, and whatever us fans on here say we all want the same thing as everyone else involved in the club, to be a league team next season, so think we all need to get behind the team and hope that our form changes sooner rather than later!

On top of all that you have said Pontoonlew, which is a very insightful assessment of Towns chances, I frightened myself by looking at the very short time frame that we have for fulfilling the remaining fixtures in this season, and I can't see how Craig Disley and Scott Kerr (at the age of 32 each - a lot younger than me I know) can be the midfield powerhouse game after game (younger players being substituted when the facts suggest they sometimes are performing better) . I'm sure this is a reason for the slow starts and it's costing us points. The current strategy is to keep the 'relatively' olduns on. Craig Disleys goals have been crucial this season to keep us in the hunt - but surely he needs to be looked after, to keep him fresh (er), otherwise he can't do justice to himself. Great goal last Saturday and this reflects his inner desire to succeed

Tonight? Never said tonight in my post to you did I?
As for tonight's game I only finished work at 8.30 pm so only got the second half, but it sounds like I got to hear the best half of the game and it sounded like town gave it a good go , but that's all fans ask for.
So there you go, I'm not all doom and gloom
Good man!!

Hail Caesar....Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears etc. etc. The negativity comes from a very few ne'er do wells amongst Town's fanbase who give vent to their feelings on here. Surely this hardly constitutes negativity around the club. Stay positive mate....you KNOW it makes sense. Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me...

Reasonable assumption but does/can it take account of the fact that these teams possibly have to play each other at some point? Town's run in once we get over the next two games doesn't look particularly testing IF they can pull a bit more out of the "form bag"

Losing narrowly away at the side with the biggest wage bill in the division is hardly a disgrace. We're still on target for promotion.
I beg to differ!!!!!!!!!!!!

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

If we were 22nd in the league and battling to stay up, then we'd all have reason to be upset and negative.
If we were 15th and going nowhere fast, we'd have reason to be negative.
But we're one point outside the play-offs with everything to play for. Ok, it could be better, so why don't we just do what fans do best and SUPPORT the manager and the players and help them cross that line.
It's clear they need a bit of a confidence boost and I certainly wouldn't relish playing in front of a crowd that gets on your back as soon as you're not winning after 15 minutes of every game.
I agree that we need to aspire to be more than we are, but sometimes you've got to take a step back and appreciate what you've already got. As I keep saying, we could be much, much worse off. Take a look at Wrexham, who were more than our equals last season. Look at Macclesfield, Hereford, Lincoln and Stockport, who are teams that have been relegated to the Conference after us. How do you think their fans are feeling?!
We're doing well. Not brilliant, not rubbish. Despite what some of you think, we do have reasons to be positive. Just be sensible about it. Inject a sense of balance into your lives; a bit of perspective. That way you won't get so depressed so regularly and so easily.

I understand your sentiment Rich Mariner. Clubs like Yeovil, Stevenage, Dagenham & Redbridge, Accrington Stanley, Morecambe, Fleetwood are all punching above their weight in my view - must have a superior business structure to us.
Grimsby Town must not settle for less than those clubs, in my view. I agree that if you looked at the Conference League table and didn't know anything about Grimsby Town, you would say that we still have a great chance of making the play offs.
It's just trying to assess the reality and how is the management team going to achieve the play offs with the resources it currently has. You also have to ask the question - 'Does the Board of Grimsby Town really want to get back in the proper football league?' - or is running this football club more sustainable at Conference level.

Our position is irrelevant really, it's the points difference that really matters. Would you prefer it if we were 6th but 5 points off the play-offs?

What I would prefer is to be top of the league or at the very least sitting easy in the play off positions. It amazes me how little some on here will settle for. There is no way we are as BIGChris says "still on target for promotion" This willingness to accept failure season after season has been the problem with all involved with the club (from top to bottom) and a lot of fans over the last few years. Of course our position is relevant, its just not good enough. "Our position is irrelevant really"

Maybe we should take a leaf out of Alfretons books, anyway I think we might just scrape into the playoffs but will not progress after that imho. The players need reminding every game to start well, yet fail, this is down to the manager for allowing this to happen, and if any of the players have any respect for PH they would be doing what he is asking. Has PH done a hairdryer moment yet? he just comes across as a mr easy laid back softy sometimes a manager needs to motivate his players and that is the biggest missing thing for me oh and the constant rotating of the players for no reason.
I really want us to get up I really do, but part of me wants us to fail so PH can get replaced.

If you'd have offered me the league table now at the start of the season I would have taken it. Us looking likely to get a play-off spot (we are only 8th because of games in hand). Plus Luton top is good news if we don't up this year because it makes the task a little easier next year (if we can afford an equally competitive squad). For that reason if we don't go up I hope Luton and Forest Green do because they are the biggest spenders. My only complaint is we took the FAT seriously,

Totally disagree. I think the unrealistic expectations of us taking the league by storm every season leads to a negative aura and demand for whoever is manager to be sacked after every point dropped.

You continually snipe at me (and others) who have a more positive outlook than you and the other doom merchants. Everyone would prefer us to be in Lutons position but we have a decent chance of making the play offs. If everyone unites together we have more chance of doing so. I just dont believe the constant moaning does anyone any good. The time for review is when the season is over. Then, and ONLY then, will we have facts. The rest is just conjecture. Despite what some post on here it isnt a fact that we will not make the play offs and equally it isnt a fact that we will. It is sport. Football is not predictable. If it were then it would have little interest or following As supporters I remain totally convinced that until the end of the season the only way to go is to back the club, manager and team because that cannot do any harm to our chances of securing promotion. Conversely constantly moaning could have an adverse effect

This is a football forum where we as fans air our views, how can this have an impact on the how the players play, i would imagine that the players and manager don't take any notice of the fishy, or even realise it exists.

People like to feel loved. We should try an experimental week where everyone writes positive things about the players, managers and team. Then we'll see what effect it has.

Well good if they do read them they wil see how drunk off the majority of the fans are. The good thing about the uk is free speech is encouraged and not everyone agrees with each other. The sense of the negativity is that most fans can see were this season is heading AGAIN.

We've had weeks where the positivity is brimming over on here, Town will have won 2-3 on a trot and played exceedingly well and all the talk on here is how we should win the game the following day or whenever. Either they choose not to look in on those occasions or they just get all giddy at the thought of being so popular and then play like a bunch of nervous amateurs. Ridiculous notion, a bit like pleading with the fans to Pack the Park then the boss complaining that the players get a bit nervous in front of 4,000+ fans, as has happened.
Get some backbone.

I think you're dead right in saying what is posted on here shouldn't affect them on match days Chris Maybe some do read this and maybe some don't...it opens a can of worms though if our players do choose to take on board what's said because there will be some who feel affronted by the criticism and abuse and let it affect their confidence and others who will react to the negative comments and think "I'll show them". Confidence / psychology / kidology.....every player has his own personal make-up and how they respond to external factors If they are confident in their ability (such as Nielson) then maybe it's water off a duck's back so to speak, because he'll stilll try to outwit defenders and go forward knowing there's a risk he might lose the ball but he'll do what he can to beat the man But there'll be others who are a bit lacking in confidence and criticism won't help a bit...Shop being blasted for missing sitters etc, Disley being moaned at for not "giving his best", Cook being criticised because he's "not fit", Rodman running into blind alleys etc etc At least though the lads have a choice whether or not to look on here (and on other site such as Twitter) ....it's a different matter at games though where they get abused just for having their names read out pre-match and then some of the moaners get on their cases for the slightest error One thing I've always done is try to support my team...maybe I'm too much a "glass half full" type but when push comes to shove, I always think you get a better response from positive support than you ever do from being on someone's back.

I'd suggest that it affects them more than you think Chris. I'm going back about 5 years now and I slagged off one particular player believe it or not who will remain nameless, on another forum. A couple of weeks later I got a PM from a relative of this player asking me to remove my post as he'd seen it (and the subsequent replies, most of which were along the same lines) and it was affecting his confidence. Strange I know but what is posted on the internet DOES affect the players.

I do believe there is no place on here for name calling or personal insults, But if a certain player/players are not performing or don't look interested then fans have a right to air their views and demand more, it's all part of having a forum surely?
That said if a player plays well and gives his all he deserves full praise off us fans. Players surely have to play their part too though.

Totally disagree. I think the unrealistic expectations of us taking the league by storm every season leads to a negative aura and demand for whoever is manager to be sacked after every point dropped.
Completely agree with this. Every fan is entitled to his/her opinion, and if they choose to demand automatic promotion every season then that's up to them. They'll say that's what we should be aiming for; people like me would love for them to be right but I choose to remain more realistic. It's my choice and I'm not telling anyone how they should think or behave. But having such high expectations all the time means you're more often than not disappointed with the eventual outcome, and I'd rather not live my life like that. It's sport. It's a game of football. Games are supposed to be enjoyable. Some are, some aren't. You have to take the rough with the smooth in life.

I really don't know how to word this without being banned from here lol, but, the 3 biggest 'everything is fantastic, we're doing great, we'll easily make the play offs, nothing is wrong' posters are GrimRob, BigChris, & barralad.
I'm not insinuating they are wrong to hold these opinions but have they been 'encouraged' to air these views??
We all know Rob got a slapped bottom in the summer and the Trust are effectively in bed with Fenty - have they been given specific instructions to shout down all dissenters?
And that's a genuine question because at times I can't believe that they can genuinely believe everything they put.
We've been on a shocking run since Christmas and we have pretty consistent problems which despite being highlighted week after week haven't been dealt with ie:
Can't keep a clean sheet Struggle to score goals Start games badly/slowly (although if Hurst's pre match talk is similar to his dull and uninspiring post match interviews is there any wonder??!)
These issues aren't going to be solved by everybody on the fishy being positive and only posting positive messages or suddenly becoming happy clappers who find mediocrity acceptable.

Did I say "taking the league by storm"??? Over the last few years there has been a time during each season when things start to go mammaries up and and its at these times the people in charge just sit on their hands and do nothing therefore instilling the culture of failure that stinks the club out. Again a great example is this season. After xmas our league form dropped off a cliff, our strikers cant score and our centre mids are being hammered every game so what do we do?? get a lad in on loan whos been injured for long enough. The budget should have been ripped up then they should have gone out and bought the two best midfielders in the league and got Connell here with offers they couldn't turn down(it is easy everyone has there price) Im not sniping at the supposed people "who have a more positive outlook" IMO these people are very easily pleased.
|
| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |

Where's this money going to come from then to pay the wages and transfer fees for such huge signings? And who says they will automatically play well together and fit into the system?

What would the reaction have been if he'd come here though and had the same sort of effect with Town since January that he's had at Northampton Maybe he'd have found goals easier to come by here than he has with them but there are no guarantees whatsoever that he'd replicate the form he had in that season he had here with us

Money from? I would suggest the bloke at the top. He got us where we are now so he should put it right. There is nothing to say any quality additions would "automatically play well" but they would have more chance of doing so than a guy from Scunny reserves who has just come back from injury. You must have been satisfied with the business we did in January then

So you're suggesting Fenty should pay for us to buy Guttridge from Luton who would be far too expensive on his own in wages alone, never mind the subsantial fee we would have to pay to Luton, who wouldn't even want to sell him to a rival in the middle of the season when they'll struggle to replace him? We're not Man City, we haven't got unlimited money and if we just chuck every last bit of money we have at the team now then fail, what do you propose we do for next season? Even if we did get promoted after we chucked everything at it, we would barely have anything left for a season in League 2. The same bloke who scored 15 goals in this league before Christmas in a mediocre team? Whereas you're suggesting we sign a player who hasn't scored at all since joining Northampton, a player who wouldn't have been match fit either after not having featured much for Bradford all year?

At the end of the day we all want just a decent season you know just a bit of a high, not the feel we are going to bottle it again. I am a season ticket holder in the ponny and only been to 2 away matches but that is enough for me to qualify as a genuine fan of town. Believe it or not i go to every match optomistic like yeah we are going to put on a performance today but the majority of the time we just dont. Its the expectation and optomism what kills you, should I expect town to win every game no but I should expect us not to be sitting in 9th in this league were alot of the teams are part time and have no were near our budget. I get your optomism but to be honest I am just so copulated off that we seem to be blowing a decent chance at the same time of the season again.

I'm suggesting that something substantial is done not just sitting on their hands. You just prove my point that too many fans have become used to being losers. I dont blame you Tom its just that we have been used to that sort of losing doom & gloom mentality seeping from the very top over the last few years Where you satisfied with the business we did in January or do you think as I do that more should have been done????????

If you are so Unsatisfied with the budget given to hurst why don't you set yourself up in business ...... anyone can do that you know....... Choose anything you want to sell..... work hard and earn millions and then plough it all back into the club to watch someone else spend it on the wrong type of player. After that you can then expect someone on a forum to then have a go at you for not spending enough of your hard earned cash.

People like to feel loved. We should try an experimental week where everyone writes positive things about the players, managers and team. Then we'll see what effect it has.
I will start it off then Rob, I love Hursty and think he is the best manager we have had since Buckley, I love all the players and think they all work very hard for the manager and us the fans, I am sure Saturday will be the start of a 12 game winning run which will see us pip Luton to be the champions by one point.

We did something substantial last year in January (and in doing so spent all our money from the FAT run) and that didn't come off as we'd hoped. I was satisfied at the time with our business because I didn't want to derail our promotion bid with poor signings which would disrupt the momentum of the team as we did last year. I can see now with hindsight why some people would be unhappy because the Tounkara signing hasn't come off as we'd hoped, but I think the run of games we've had coupled with the injuries we've had has made us wonder whether the business has been sufficient.

I think some people might look at the Town fans who weep and wail and gnash their teeth over every setback and think, ‘Blimey, I wouldn’t want to be in the trenches with that lot.’
On the other hand, the whingeing could be quite a healthy outpouring in a culture where the norm (for men at least) is stiff upper lip, keep calm and carry on, big boys don’t cry, and the rest of it.
Not really sure about Rob’s idea of pretending to love the players as an experiment. If I was a player my response would probably be ‘Yeah, whatever – phoney gits.’
People deal with negativity in different ways. Every so often Town will bring in someone who I instantly dislike with an almost irrational intensity, and the only way forward is to see the funny side. I can reel off a whole list of names – Peter Beagrie, Mike Newell, Michael Reddy, Parky (!) Adam Proudlock, Richard Brodie….Last season became a permanent Brodie Watch, as I searched in vain for something to like about him… pretty futile, but at least it kept me interested. And sometimes, after a while, I surprise even myself … Parky!

Michael Reddy's stands out a mile in that list! How anyone could not be captivated by his greasy long hair, Irish accent, mazy runs, lightening pace and fantastic ability is beyond me. The others I am in agreement with. Parky did grow on me though. He was actually OK and always did well when we were on TV. Butt ugly though.

What i find annoying is the fact that anyone who criticises the team or manager on here is instantly branded a doom monger or a moaning twit, as if staying positive makes you some kind of moral crusader for GTFC and that being positive will get us winning. I attend 99% of home games, never shout at the players, never boo, and clap them off if they have give it a go, win lose or draw.
What i voice on here is more concern than anything. Hurst has been here exactly 3 years and we look no more likely to get out of this league now than we did then. We have not progressed at all from last season, gone backwards if anything, yet several teams around us have improved dramatically- some of those with far less budgets at their disposal. I think that is a cause for concern and if JF isn't concerned, then he should be. It's possible after Tuesday that we could have 14 points from 14 games.
It's also possible that we will win the next 2 games and storm into the play offs. We can only go on what has happened, not what might happen, so if you want to stay optimistic, then fine, but don't then call anyone without that optimism a doom monger or moaning twit- saying that we only come out of the woodwork when Town lose. Not all of us do and i've been saying for months that i don't think PH has what it takes.
Sincerely hope i am wrong.

Yep, I know it was crazy, but the Tranmere relegation put me in a very bad mood, and no way was I going to be captivated by some overly-feted, billy big-time, floppy-haired fancy dan with a knee bandage, who fell over whenever anyone came within half a mile of him, and seemed to take an age before he started sticking the ball in the net on a regular basis. I did soften towards him eventually - the Irish accent did its work, and I also began to acknowledge that Reddy had had a serious injury and you could hardly expect him to be blazing with confidence straightaway. And then he earned a shedload of brownie points from me, for dragging Ashley Sestanovich away when Stan looked for all the world like he was going to wallop the referee just before he was sent off during his last ever game for us - after that, I forgave Reddy for being a fancy dan and started to quite like him. I think he really started to show his true worth in his second season with us, though - not the first one. As for Parky - I took against him because he was a headless chicken from Tranmere... took me a while to get over the Tranmere thing, but I did eventually.

That comment makes me mad! most of the so called moaning at every setback that we have is because we care and think, wisely or not that things could improve by making a few obvious changes like playing individuals in their correct position and starting games on the front foot, its the waffy ones among us that although we are still in a challenging position think that every thing in the garden is rosey, regarding the trenches scenerio if the generals in charge had treated the Bosch as a dangerous enemy rather than a bunch of strange people in spiked hats out for a days rabbiting lives would have been saved, moral is if it aint right and its not in your control question and moan and hope someone listens

Marinette [quote=3]I think some people might look at the Town fans who weep and wail and gnash their teeth over every setback and think, ‘Blimey, I wouldn’t want to be in the trenches with that lot.’
Point taken. No offence intended.

I've been trying to keep up with this thread over the past few days but not had chance to post but from what I can gather, some are saying that we as fans shouldn't have an opinion on the players or management at the club we support unless it's a positive one on this forum? Am I right in saying that or am I totally off the mark?
I aren't buying all this "get behind the players on a fans forum website balderdash". I much prefer to get behind them when I'm at Blundell Park, I encourage them when they do well at Blundell Park, I often bite my tongue when they don't do well. So for all those tongue biting moments, surely I and others that post on here can be excused for letting off a bit of steam on a FANS (not players) forum?!
I've been to the past few home games and in nutshell, I thought we were toilet on all occasions. The majority of people who I speak to, who have also been to the very same games say pretty much the same thing and they, like me are certainly not impressed by the football that's currently being doled out and are far from confident that we'll be promoted this season.
Sorry to any players that may be reading this, sorry if your "feelings" might be hurt by saying what I think but as a professional footballer, you should be able to cope with this..... Shouldn't you?...... Surely!
I want them to succeed, of course I do, playoff final minimum for me. I expect them to beat Nuneaton tomorrow........... Convincingly.

It would appear Les's point went way way over your head. If you are going to quote at least have the decency to put the full quote in.
No it didnt go over my head. As I recall Fleetwood didnt do to bad throwing money about to get out of the this League.

| In his three stints as Grimsby Town manager spanning over 10 years the club was never relegated and he also guided them to three promotions. Only 14 managers have reached 1,000 matches in charge of a Football League team by 1998 and Buckley is one of them. GOD |
